3 Tips for Better Online Content

The Internet is a double-edged sword. On one end, you have a great opportunity to get your brand in front of the masses. On the other end, everyone else has that same opportunity. And as you know, attention is a finite resource: Not everyone’s online content will get a ton of engagement (or any engagement at all).

Publishing content regularly isn’t enough these days. You need to be publishing optimized content – content that draws the attention of search engine spiders and ranks your website(s) at the top. You could be publishing the best content out there on a specific healthcare niche, but if nobody knows about it, you’re out of luck.

Follow these simple optimization tips to give your content a running start:

  1. Pick your keywords wisely. So you have a topic for your next blog/video/podcast/whitepaper/etc.? Great, now research some keywords. Simply writing about “joint replacement” is too broad and is sure to relegate you to the deepest pages on Google. Instead, use online keyword research tools to mine for gold – or in this case, keywords that give your content a viable chance of ranking.
  2. Improve the user experience. The words on your site are just one piece of the search engine optimization puzzle. Factors like page speed and navigation play a huge role in how well your site does on search engines. If the structure of your website is confusing and users aren’t finding the content they’re looking for, they’re going to bounce – and potentially affect your ranking.
  3. Clean up well. If your website has been around for a while, you’ve probably had your fair share of redirects and other technical snafus. If pages are missing, the code is faulty or there are some other back-end problems with your site, get them fixed as soon as possible. All of these issues can have a negative impact on your site’s visibility.
