Cloudy with a chance of computing

A quick look at cloud computing.

You may have heard a term lately that is a bit confusing: Cloud Computing. It sounds like the latest weather forecast computer system, but guess again. It refers to a computer environment where multiple computers work on the same problem or service simultaneously. It’s called a cloud because you don’t really know what it looks like inside, just that the outside is white and fluffy.

The concept is not new, but only recently has the technology gotten to the point where applying is possible on a large scale. So why is this important to us? Well, websites run very well in the Cloud. Your requests for a page may be served by one computer now, but a different one next time. This keeps all the machines at peak efficiency and insures that your 100th page arrives just as well as your first.
