Twitter analytics on the way?

There’s been a lot of talk about how to monetize Twitter. Folks like Omniture already offer an analytics tool that allows businesses to measure the real impact of their social presence on the site, but Twitter’s been in the fox hole—until now. Loren Baker of searchenginejournal.com is reporting that Google Feedburner CEO Dick Costolo has just been knighted COO at Twitter and hints that the partnership may be Twitter’s way of killing two birds with one man.

Here’s what he says:

“Imagine the ability to open a pro Twitter Analytics account with a monthly micropayment structure and be able to track all referrals which are passed through the Twitter API .. not just Twitter.com based referrals, but via the various Twitter applications, Twitter syndication, various shorteners and other Twitter powered news items which distribute your ideas and or links to your site … via tweets, retweets and forms of 140 character haiku… if Twitter were able to plug in directly to RSS feeds… to track blog and RSS readership metrics and implement them into its real-time search algorithm… that my friends would be a whole different story and give Twitter another powerful jump in its search engine aspirations.”
