As technology races forward in today’s fast-paced world, more physicians are interested in making the switch not only to electronic health records (EHRs), but also accessing these records via a mobile device, like a smartphone or tablet.

According to a survey by health IT company Vitera Healthcare Solutions, 91 percent of physicians surveyed want EHR access on a mobile device and 72 percent of these physicians use their mobile devices for healthcare-related purposes – including performing research. But just 6 percent have used them to access EHRs

In the survey, physicians said they would most like to use their mobile device for the following functions:

  • Reviewing and updating patient charts
  • Ordering prescriptions
  • Documenting a patient encounter
  • Performing out-of-office activities

According to the responses, accessing an EHR from a mobile device is a win for everyone. Physicians can easily prepare for their patients ahead of time from anywhere, and patients can be treated more quickly.
