Death and birth of consumer magazines

167 brave new publications were launched in the first quarter of 2009.

Economic doom and gloom has pummeled the consumer magazine industry. Big names and companies have been victims – O at Home, Domino, Teen, Playgirl, Golf and, as of Monday, Condé Nast Portfolio. Although ad pages have been slashed across the board from these glossy mags, University of Mississippi School of Journalism Chair Samir Husni reports that 167 new publications were launched in the first quarter of 2009, which  represents a 12 percent increase from Q1 2008. Best of luck to you brave souls.

At Wax, we’re just glad that custom magazines are here to stay.
